संरक्षण ~ सीख | Tutelage ~ Learnings
In the Indian classical tradition, music is not merely taught — it is received, cultivated, and lived. Rooted in the guru-śiṣya paramparā, my tutelage programmes are designed as evolving journeys that guide learners from foundational musical understanding towards deeper artistic inquiry, performance, and creative expression.
śikṣaṇa paddhati (Teaching Method)
- One-on-one personalised guidance
- Weekly sessions (60 minutes each)
- Online / In-person modes available
- Structured yet flexible progression pathways
- Rooted in tradition, adapted to the learner
- Module-based learning with the flexibility to continue or conclude after each module
Each learner’s journey is unique. Accordingly, the programmes are structured progressively while allowing flexibility for learners to move at their own pace. Every programme comprises four progressive yet independent modules (except Samanvaya), enabling learners to continue, pause, or conclude their journey at the completion of any module according to their individual aspirations and circumstances.
प्रारम्भ | Prārambha: Foundation Programme in Hindustānī Classical Music
Prārambha — meaning the beginning — is intended for beginners and aspiring practitioners seeking initiation into the rich and nuanced world of Hindustānī Classical Music. The programme introduces learners to the foundations of Indian classical music through the study of basic rāgas, melodic structures, rhythm, tonal sensitivity, and disciplined riyāz. Emphasis is placed equally on technical development and aesthetic cultivation, enabling students to build confidence, listening ability, and artistic awareness. Structured through four progressive yet independent modules of twelve weeks each, Prārambha serves as an invitation into a lifelong musical journey — one that nurtures sensitivity, discipline, and inner connection through music.
Ideal for: Beginners and learners above 12 years of age.
साधना | Sādhanā: Intermediate Programme in rāga Development and Musical Expression
Sādhanā — meaning dedicated practice and disciplined pursuit — is intended for learners wishing to deepen their engagement with Hindustānī Classical Music through systematic riyāz, expanded repertoire, and artistic refinement. The programme emphasises the internalisation of rāga aesthetics, improvisational sensibilities, and the gradual emergence of individual musical expression. It seeks to nurture a mature relationship with music where technical proficiency and emotional depth evolve together. Sādhanā unfolds through four progressive yet independent modules of twelve weeks each, allowing learners the flexibility to continue their musical exploration according to their pace and commitment.
अन्वेषण | Anveṣaṇa: Advanced Programme in rāga Exploration and Performance Practice
Anveṣaṇa — meaning exploration and enquiry — is intended for serious practitioners seeking advanced immersion into rāga development, improvisation, performance practice, and artistic identity. At this stage, music becomes not merely learning but enquiry. Learners engage more deeply with aesthetics, improvisation, performance architecture, and the cultivation of artistic individuality. The programme comprises four progressive yet independent modules of twelve weeks each, enabling sustained engagement while retaining flexibility for learners.
समन्वय | Samanvaya: Composition, Creativity & Cross-Cultural Musical Dialogue
Samanvaya — meaning integration and harmony — is intended for advanced learners, musicians, and artists interested in creative dialogue between Indian classical traditions and contemporary artistic practice. Rooted in classical foundations while open to exploration, Samanvaya encourages composition, collaboration, contemplative listening, and creative inquiry.
A Note on the Musical Journey
Each module extends over twelve weeks; however, advanced pathways, particularly Anveṣaṇa and Samanvaya, are envisioned as deeper immersive engagements and generally require a minimum of fifty-two weeks (one year) of dedicated study for meaningful artistic development. Yet, in the spirit of the guru-śiṣya paramparā, music is not measured merely by duration. It is a lifelong unfolding — nurtured through riyāz, contemplation, experience, and inner evolution. The journey therefore extends not to a defined endpoint, but to continued discovery.
Curriculum Consultation, Admissions & Enquiries
Each learner’s musical journey is unique. While the tutelage pathways presented above offer an overview of the learning progression, the programmes themselves unfold through carefully curated modules with defined objectives, repertoire, learning outcomes, practice methodologies, and guided riyāz frameworks.
The detailed course curriculum is shared individually following the interaction so that learners may be appropriately placed according to their age, prior exposure, musical aspiration, and readiness.
